Petronas Explores RPB Technology Advantages and Applications in China
October 21, 2023
Senior representatives and experts from Petronas visited China to inspect the practical application of Rotating Packed Bed (RPB) technology. The purpose of this visit was to gain an in-depth understanding of the advantages of RPB technology in practical applications and to engage in direct exchanges with factory engineers. This important visit not only deepened the cooperation between Petronas and SFCL in RPB technology but also provided new development opportunities for future collaboration between the two parties.
During this visit, SFCL and the Petronas delegation first visited one of the important practical applications of RPB in China—Yunnan Phosphate Group Haikou Phosphorus Industry Co., Ltd., located in Kunming, Yunnan Province. The company boasts one of China's largest industrial RPB applications, with a processing capacity of 100 MMSCFD. This application involves the use of solvent absorption to remove sulfur dioxide from flue gas. This RPB system has been in continuous operation since 2014, demonstrating significant features such as high desulfurization efficiency, low operating costs, and a small footprint.
On the second day, the visiting team arrived in Yinchuan, Ningxia Province, to visit PetroChina Ningxia Petrochemical Company. The company operates two large-scale fertilizer production units and one compound fertilizer production unit, generating nearly ten billion Chinese Yuan in annual sales revenue, making it one of the largest million-ton urea production enterprises in the country. Here, they learned about one of the most widely utilized scenarios for RPB—using solvent (MDEA) to absorb hydrogen sulfide from flue gas. The company has three RPB systems currently in operation, showcasing the applicability of RPB technology in complex industrial processes.
This visit not only deepened Petronas' understanding of RPB technology but also expanded the depth of technical cooperation between the two parties. In the future, both sides will continue to work closely together, jointly exploring the wider application of RPB technology in the petroleum industry and injecting new momentum into the industry's developmen
